You may have heard about a friendly weight-loss competition this summer called the Columbia Slimdown Challenge. More than 11,500 pounds were shed by Columbians who took on the challenge and won a more fit and healthful lifestyle. The good folks at the Tiger Institute for Health Innovation are at it again with yet another health challenge, the Columbia Steps Challenge.
It’s easy to get started. Pull together a team of 4-6 people (ages 13 and up), register them at www.columbiastepschallenge.com and begin recording your daily steps using a pedometer. The team with the highest average steps at the end of the 12-week competition wins. And just like with the Columbia Slimdown Challenge, there are prizes, prizes and more prizes – in addition to getting fit and healthy.
If you don’t have a pedometer already, one of the Challenge sponsors, Jenny Craig, is offering a 25% discount off their pedometers to all Columbia Steps Challenge participants or you can pick one up at most sporting goods or discount department stores.
The competition will officially begin on September 17 and will run through December 17, so rally your co-workers, family members and friends and take the challenge! Your body will thank you for it.
